About Us

Lindley Elementary cultivates a supportive, enriching environment where students thrive through academics, character education, cultural celebration and community involvement. With specialized instruction, a focus on Spanish language and culture, Lindley empowers students to grow as learners.

Student Life & Enrichment

Departmentalized
One aspect that makes Lindley unique is that it is departmentalized. Each grade level has two teachers. One teacher teaches reading, writing and social studies while the other teacher teaches math and science. This allows Lindley students to benefit from the expertise of the teachers and dedicated time to learn specific subject areas with explicit instruction.

Monthly Character Trait Assemblies
Each month, Lindley students and staff come together to learn about a new character trait that reflects the values we want our school to represent. We also celebrate students who demonstrate that trait at the beginning of each assembly.

Music Programs
Each year, our music teacher prepares students for two performances for their families—one in the winter and one in the spring. These programs allow students to showcase their musical and performance skills.

Honor Roll Assemblies
Each quarter, students in grades 3-5 gather to celebrate those who have made the honor roll. Each grade level announces its honorees who receive a certificate. In the final quarter, students who made honor roll all year receive a Principal’s Honor Roll certificate and a medal.

La Fiesta Celebration
On the first Thursday in May, students showcase their Spanish language and cultural knowledge during a special celebration with their families. The event features food, crafts, dancing and a student performance in Spanish, all celebrating Hispanic culture and heritage.

Spanish Language and Culture Focused
Lindley embraces a strong focus on Spanish language and culture. Students have daily Spanish class for 30 minutes and an additional 45-minute weekly rotation during special area classes. They learn both the language and the history and culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

Study Connection
Held after school on Thursdays, this program connects students with volunteers from the Fort Wayne Rotary Club. Volunteers help students with reading and math and often stay with their assigned student throughout their time at Lindley. The program runs throughout the school year.

Lunch Buddies
Run through Big Brothers Big Sisters, this program matches K-5 students with community volunteers who meet with them weekly during lunch and recess. The buddy follows the student throughout their years at Lindley, serving as a consistent role model and source of encouragement. Many volunteers are supported by their employers to participate.

STEAM Day
Each year, students and teachers dedicate a day to hands-on learning activities centered around science, technology, engineering, arts and math. This event encourages creativity, problem-solving and collaboration.
